2021 VW Tarok Pickup: Redesign, Price, Specs, and Rumors. The pickup market is getting hotter every day, so it’s no wonder that new models are coming frequently. As one of the world’s major manufacturers, VW definitely wants its share. Normally, the focus is on North America, where these types of vehicles are most popular. As the German manufacturer doesn’t have the capacity to make a full-size pickup truck, the focus will be on a mid-size vehicle. The new model is expected to come in the near future and a concept version already had a premiere, as 2021 VW Tarok
The new truck is interesting in many ways. It looks nice and promises good performances. Still, the thing that is most interesting about it is the platform. This will be a unibody truck, which isn’t the most common design approach in the segment, although some manufacturers practice such design for years.
2021 VW Tarok Engines
Things about the powertrain are pretty clear. Count on the same lineup as in the Atlas. This means that base models will feature a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. On the other side, higher trims should be equipped with a 3.6-liter V6, which is good for about 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come in pairs with a well-working 8-speed automatic transmission.
2021 VW Tarok Platform
If you wonder what’s so special about the platform of 2021 VW Tarok, it’s the fact that we are talking about a unibody truck. Instead of a traditional body-on-frame layout, we are about to see a modern, crossover-like design, which still isn’t a common thing in the segment, despite that Honda Ridgeline exists in such way for more than 15 years. Like any other thing in the world, this design approach also has up and downsides. Compared to BoF trucks, it has several advantages, but also one big disadvantage.
When it comes to advantages, things are pretty obvious. As we are talking about a unibody platform, the VW Tarok 2021 is actually more like a crossover with a cargo bed than a traditional pickup truck. This means a lighter body and much better efficiency. This means a much better driving experience. Such a truck would be much more comfortable, and also much more interesting to drive. Better handling and less body roll is something you can expect with such a design.
On the other side, there is one big drawback. Such pickup trucks aren’t as capable as models that ride on body-on-frame platform. Therefore, you may count on lower max towing capacity and overall working capabilities. For comparison, a unibody truck like Honda Ridgeline can tow up to 5.000 pounds, just like a common crossover. On the other side, BoF trucks like Chevy Colorado or Ford Ranger feature max towing capacity that goes way over 7.000 pounds.
2021 VW Tarok Design
A unibody platform will be the main characteristic of this pickup truck, so you may presume that the new 2021 VW Tarok will have most things in common with the mid-size crossover Atlas. The two models will share most of the mechanics and ride on the same MQB platform. This also means that the new pickup truck will feature a FWD layout. OF course, AWD models will be available.
In terms of the styling, the recent concept has brought a new aesthetical approach, which uses Atlas as the basis, but also comes with numerous upgrades. This is particularly notable in terms of lighting, as the concept came with a completely new, full-LED lighting setup.
The concept came with a lot of interesting things, we are pretty sure that the 2021 Tarok will feature pretty much the same cabin as its SUV counterpart. This mid-size crossover may not feature the most attractive cabin in its segment but for the class of pickup truck, that’s more than enough for a good-looking interior. The new truck will be spacious, with two adult-friendly rows of seats, characterized by plenty of legroom. Finally, we count on loads of new tech goodies.
2021 VW Tarok Release Date and Price
Officials are still quiet about this model, but we presume that the new model could arrive already this year. Base models will probably go slightly under 30.000 dollars.
Besides the brand-new Tarok, we also count on the next generation of Amarok. This pickup will remain in the offer outside North America and it will carry on as a BoF pickup truck. We count on lots of novelties, which will bring improvements in all aspects, starting from towing capacity, ride quality and comfort. Of course, new styling and lots of new tech features is another thing we expect to see. At this point, it looks like the new model will hit the market sometime in 2021.
